Fundraising: how to promote hope?

Fundraising can be challenging, especially when you need to advocate an abstract term like hope and create awareness around a difficult cause. Read on to learn how wearing matching scarves helped Hope Fragrances International advance their brand and their cause.

Hope Fragrances, an organization we’ve recently worked with, has a mission to “fund cutting-edge, scientific research into the origins, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of depression and its related mood and other emotional disorders – bipolar disorder, postpartum depression, post-traumatic stress syndrome, anxiety disorder and suicide.” To fund this research, Audrey Gruss, the founder and chairman

of Hope Fragrances, designed a one of a kind white floral fragrance, inspired by her mother who loved white flowers. The unique fragrance, bearing the scent of jasmine, gardenia and tuberose, is sold online and in stores.

When the fragrance was launched, Hope Fragrances approached Monsoon Corporate Gifts, asking that we design them a scarf that would match the design of the fragrances’ packaging. The custom designed scarves were an elevated item provided to store associates and beauty ambassadors, but it was so desirable that the brand offered is as a gift with purchase to customers during the promotional event.  The designed scarves then became a customized uniform for the associates, creating a unified image for the fragrance and the employees.

Since the pattern on the scarf was the same as the pattern of the fragrance’s packaging, Hope Fragrances’ brand was easily recognized amongst the sales associates and beauty ambassadors. The employees were easily visible due to their matching silk scarves and thus they were able to ensure proper customer service and personal interactions. People genuinely care to support a personal cause, and a personal interaction is what will enable donors to feel as though their money is going to a charitable organization.

Hope Fragrance’s launch was a success and we’re happy we were able to take part in its success. In helping design a custom scarf, we were able to create a wearable visual representation of the cause. Hence, Hope Fragrances was able to build brand recognition of the fragrance which in turn encouraged donors to purchase the fragrance in support of research for depression.
